Doherty Architects continues to follow government guidelines with our employees already having made the switch to remote working for the last few weeks. As you can see we've all got our own setup at home sorted!

Design ID Lecture 'Lean Design, the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and Us'

We attended Design ID's interesting lecture and panel discussion last night on the importance of carbon reduction creating a sustainable development within construction. The importance of construction within UN's 17 sustainable development goals, (SDGs) was highlighted, bringing home the importance of our choices as designers and their significant effects on the carbon footprint of the buildings we design.

We were delighted to see one of our award winning projects used as an exemplar within DesignID's presentation. Having worked collaboratively with DesignID on the Creative Industries Building, the design team achieved a reduction in carbon usage through the retention and refurbishment of the existing industrial building; Testing and maximising the utilisation of the existing structure and the implementation of a 7m structural grid within the new extension to optimise steel framework.

Top of the hill Community Centre Flythrough

Take a look at our fly through video that we created to help visualise our community centre currently on site. We made this with one of our current render packages which also allows us to jump into VR and get a real sense of each of the spaces.

We have found this to be an invaluable tool for both design development and the involvement of our clients throughout the design stages.

As we near the one year on site mark, our community centre in Derry / Londonderry is starting to take real shape. A lot of the spaces that we had envisaged in our BIM (3D) Model have finally came to life and we can physically stand where we were standing a year ago in our VR model. Really looking forward to seeing this complete. We’ll share more of this build in the coming weeks.

Grafton Architects deliver Peter Rice Annual Lecture

One of our Directors, Michael Doherty, had the opportunity to provide a written reflection on this years annual Peter Rice Lecture which returned on 19th November 2019. Grafton architects delivered this years lecture and discussed the practice’ progress and their approach to architecture. Pick up a copy of this months Perspective Magazine to read the whole article.

Nearing completion! A glimpse into our latest Grade A office project.

We are excited to see this building nearing completion. As elements are completed we are getting to see a glimpse of the prominent industrial aesthetic, found on the site, that this building has been inspired by. We particularly like the strong contrast between the listed adjacent church setting and the simple lines of the office building. More photos to follow.
