Naíscoil Uachtar TíreThe need to build for a sustainable low carbon future is impacting on all aspects of the construction industry, not least the Irish Language Education Sector.Continual improvements to building regulations mean Mobile Classrooms with their high energy low life span are being replaced by modern methods of construction. This project is our prototype of the nursery sector being designed in a modular format to allow for future improvements and expansion but also allowing for a variety of finishes and detailing giving each location its individuality while allowing rapid construction on site. The façade designs which consist of a mixture of timber cladding, large glazed sections, and solar shading are both robust and informed by aesthetics. The strategically placed glazing allows for excellent natural ventilation together with day-lighting, whilst solar shading minimises excess heat gains, thus reducing the energy consumption for cooling. The introduction of colour throughout the design creates a playful and child friendly building while the use of a varied ceiling height and high level glazing creates a spacious internal environment, something not typical of off-site construction.
